Cette pandémie nous a fait réfléchir à ce qui compte vraiment dans la vie, c’est-à-dire à l’essentiel. La nourrriture et le logement sont très importants, mais pour plusieurs, les livres tiennent une grande place; une nourriture pour l’esprit et pour l’âme et un enchantement pour l’imagination. Les livres nous aident à vivre, surtout pour passer à travers les grands froids de l’hiver. Somme toute, par les soirs de tempête, quoi de mieux qu’un bon feu, une bonne boisson et un très bon livre ?

Par bonheur, les rayons de la Bibliothèque Pettes sont remplis de bonne lecture pour tous les goûts et âges, de beaucoup de films sur DVD, de livres audio sur CD et de nombreuses revues. Même si le public ne peut accéder à la bibliothèque pendant la pandémie, elle est ouverte du mardi au samedi de 10h à 16h.

Consultez le catalogue sur notre site web à pettes.ca. Il y a toujours des nouveautés sur le menu, y compris les acquisitions mensuelles. Et maintenant, en plus d’offrir la collecte de livres sans contact à la bibliothèque, grâce aux Club Lions, nous pouvons en faire la livraison à votre porte.

Le coup de fil des Lions

Nous avons toujours été préoccupés par le service aux personnes qui n’ont pas accès à la bibliothèque. Il va sans dire que l’appel fortuit des Lions pour nous offrir leur aide a été accepté sur le champ.

Si vous êtes confinés à VLB, Brome ou Bolton-Ouest, et membre de la Bibliothèque Pettes, vous êtes éligibles à ce service. Les Lions feront la livraison une fois par semaine, le jeudi. Passez vos commandes au plus tard avant la fermeture de la bibliothèque le mercredi à 16h.

Vous n’êtes pas membres ? Ingrid, Shelley, Maggie-Rose ou Jana vous enregistreront par téléphone. C’est gratuit pour les résidents de VLB et de Bolton-Ouest. Ailleurs, vous pouvez devenir membre pour une somme modique, remboursable si vous demeurez à Brome.

Les protocoles de sécurité seront une priorité

Les livreurs porteront gants et masques. Ils sonneront ou frapperont à votre porte et laisseront vos livres dans un sac étanche étiqueté. Ils observeront la distanciation lorsque vous ouvrirez. Pour le retour des livres, même procédé à rebours, replacer les livres dans le sac, tenir la distanciation sociale avec le bénévole effectuant la collecte.

This pandemic has us all thinking about what’s truly important in life. What are your “essentials”? Food and shelter are always high on the list, but for many books are right up there. Nourishment for the mind, food for the soul, a feast for the imagination…books sustain us, especially through the frigid winter months. After all, on a dark and stormy night, what could be better than a cozy fire, a comforting beverage, and a really good book?

Fortunately, the shelves at Pettes Memorial Library are packed with good reads for every taste and age group, not to mention great films and series on DVD, audio books on CD, and your favourite magazines. And while health regulations prohibit Pettes from welcoming the public into the building, like other “essential services”, the Library is open for business: Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Browse the website catalogue at pettes.ca. There’s always something new on the menu, with acquisitions made monthly. And now, in addition to offering contactless pick-up service at our door, thanks to our local Lions, we can deliver to yours.

Let’s hear it for the Lions!

Serving those who can’t get to the Library has long been a concern at Pettes. So, when the Knowlton Lions Club called us out of the blue and asked if they could help, we couldn’t say “Yes!” fast enough.

If you are housebound in Town of Brome Lake, Brome or West Bolton and are a member of Pettes Memorial Library, you are eligible for this service. Lions will make deliveries once a week, on Thursday, so we ask you to call and place your order before end-of-day Wednesday.

Not a member? Ingrid, Shelley, Maggie-Rose or Jana can register you over the phone. Membership to Pettes Memorial Library is free to residents of Town of Brome Lake and West Bolton. Others may join for a small out-of-towner fee, which your municipality will reimburse to you if you hail from Brome.

Safety protocols will be a priority

Delivery Lions will wear masks and gloves. When making a delivery, your Lion will knock or ring at your door and leave your books there for you, bagged and tagged. She or he will then stand well back to let you collect them. When the time comes to return the books, we ask you to reverse the process, placing the books back in the bag on your doorstep and maintaining a safe distance from the Lion who comes to collect them.
